Doers

Nearing the end of the week, I bear little resemblance to the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, weekend-rested, pillar of productivity who, with great foresight, defrosted a bag of ground turkey on Sunday for dinner on Monday.

Come Friday morning, I greet a swollen to-do list, and take stock of my stakeholders. I’ve been working several tracks, give or take, each one in the eyes of their expectants no closer to done than the day prior. But I spent every nine-to-five this week in motion, I was productive!

I’ll give you the play-by-play. An agent’s plan is now ready for review, while another LLM has assembled the answer to my literally burning question. A query finishes, a ping, a PR, and the ever-growing stench of burning rubber. This will be the perfect Slack message. One task becomes uncomfortable, and we context switch. This one needs another set of eyes, let’s context switch. I can’t quite remember where I last left off here? Context switch. In the absence of direction, I’m sure any step forward counts.

To little avail I divide my paltry pail between every burning topic. You see, I’m still quite green to this “sustained focus” thing, and am happy to have more minutes in motion than not. I know everyone’s waiting, it’s Friday, it burns at my side, but we’ll just have to spawn one more agent. A bag of ground turkey is sweating at the bottom of my fridge.

I’m bored of this tidbit now and am late to my evening struggle bowl (two flavors of ice cream, granola, a criminal wad of peanut butter, milk?). If the irony is still lost on this writer, the gist is that I’m no longer sure that productive means progressive.

Done over do.
